Encrypted text, no towers, no bill

LoRa is a low-power, long-range radio protocol. Meshtastic is open-source firmware that turns cheap LoRa boards into an encrypted text-messaging mesh.

No towers. No satellites. No subscription. No monthly anything.

How it works: each node relays messages for the others. The network's reach grows as more nodes join — your message can hop across several devices to reach someone far outside your own radio range.

What makes it useful off-grid: - Power draw is negligible compared to anything else in your comms stack - Range depends on terrain and antenna height — line of sight from a ridge can be many miles; dense trees cut it hard - It's text and position only, not voice or internet. That's the trade for the power and range.

Real uses: convoy coordination without cell service, keeping in touch across a property, a resilient backup when everything else is down, and location sharing when someone goes out alone.
